Both the hip-hop and fashion industries have been at the forefront since the start of web3’s massive transformation. However, the well-known celebrity Kanye West, a prominent representative of both areas, has shown no interest in the global trend, until now. Even in January 2022, he posted a handwritten note on his Instagram that read: “Don’t ask me to do shitty NFTs” (he added, “Ask me later”).
But according to the published documents, Kanye West is not so against NFTs and other web3 initiatives. On the contrary, he is about to get into one. So, on May 27, West’s Mascotte Holdings submitted a bunch of metaverse- and NFT-related applications to the US Patent and Trademark Office. All 17 applications sought protection for its trend-setting Yeezus label. digital field, as well as for the web3 integration of the brand.
According to trademark attorney Josh Gerben cheepKanye West will launch Yeezus-branded amusement parks, blockchain coins and non-fungible tokens, physical and online retail stores, cosmetics, toys and more. One document specifically mentions the possibility of “offering an online marketplace for buyers of crypto and/or digital collectibles, coins, tokens, and assets.”
The entire NFT community is buzzing about the possibility of the creation of the branded Yeezus NFT market, as the app refers to non-expendable assets and online retail stores.
For now, neither Kanye himself nor Mascotte Holdings have commented on the news. But one thing is for sure, the days of Kanye West’s indifference to web3 are long gone.
